Moon & Sun Drawing Ideas (1)

Sun & Moon Drawing Ideas (Cute, Aesthetic, and Easy)

I love drawing cute and simple things, and one of my favorite themes lately has been the sun and moon. There’s just something so calming and magical about celestial doodles, right? Most of these ideas came from late-night sketching sessions, Pinterest inspiration spirals (you know the kind), and little “what if…” thoughts that popped into my head.
All of these are beginner-friendly, even the ones that look fancy. I always try to design my drawings so that anyone can recreate them without stress. Whether you’re filling a journal, decorating a letter, or just doodling for fun, I hope you find something here that sparks your creativity 💛

You can see some of them in my article about whimsical drawing ideas!

Let’s get into the cozy part, and let’s draw the sky! 💛

Moon Drawing Ideas

Let’s start with some moon drawing ideas! I love drawing moons and the night sky in general, so there are way more moon drawings compared to the sun in this article. In any case, you can always make these with sun instead of moon!

Aesthetic Moon

Let’s start with this very simple yet aesthetic moon drawing idea. Drawing the moon in an aesthetic setup is my favorite thing, to be honest. So you’ll see a couple of these! I drew this while thinking about cozy nights and rainy clouds, and it just happened. It’s one of those easy drawing ideas that looks way more detailed than it is. Also, as usual, sparkles. lol

I tried to make this one feel calm and balanced, almost like it belongs in a tattoo design or a minimal poster. (and actually, you can find this drawing in my tattoo ideas as well!) It’s just a few lines and dots, but it still feels celestial and deep. I love giving that vibe with the least amount of detail possible, kind of like magic in a few strokes.

This one is the same as the first drawing idea I posted in this article. Basically, the same idea with a different execution. Which one do you prefer? I personally really like both. You can replace the moon by a sun if you prefer ♥

This one’s just sweet. I had this image in my head of the moon holding a star like it’s tucking it in for bed. Well, you get the picture lol. Super beginner-friendly, and such a cute idea to try if you love soft and dreamy vibes. I think it turned out really peaceful and gentle.

This one came straight from my Pinterest mood board. I love when the moon is paired with crystals- it’s just so aesthetic and mystical. I think it’s great if you’re into witch things, you know? I kept the shapes really clean so even beginners could get the vibe without stressing the lines.

I actually sketched this in my planner first! The idea of a moon hanging a star like a mobile felt so gentle. I wanted to mix in those dreamy bedtime vibes with simple lines, so anyone could recreate it in a few minutes. Definitely a cozy favorite. And it’s super easy to draw, so that’s a plus haha

This one is probably not that easy to draw because of the symmetry it has. But it got a little witchy energy. The triple moon is such a cool symbol, and I wanted to make it soft and approachable for anyone to draw, even if you’ll need a little time to make it symmetrical. It’s great for moon phase lovers or if you’re just into celestial themes with a little meaning behind them.

I tried to make this one feel like the moon was part of a little floating solar system. The dots and orbit lines make it feel fancy, but they’re honestly just circles and dots, super easy to do. This is one of those aesthetic drawing ideas I come back to often. Also a great tattoo idea in my opinion (but I love moons, sooo…)

Last aesthetic moon drawing idea for now! This was all about balance. I love drawing clean lines and centered designs, and this one felt like lining up stars and moons just right. Even though it looks precise, once again, it’s honestly just shapes (circles) and dots. Just try it♥

Whimsical Moon

This one totally came out of a doodle daydream. I imagined a soft moonlit lake, then thought—what if something magical lived in it? I wanted it to feel mysterious but also kind of peaceful. It’s all simple shapes, perfect for beginners who want something a little different from the usual stars and moons. Sorry for the quality of the picture though, it’s a bit pixelated for some reason. ♥

I was thinking about magical girl shows (yes, totally inspired by that lol), and wanted to draw something that looked like a tiny badge of magic. And actually, you can find this drawing idea in my Card Captor Sakura collection (if you love Sakura, please be my frienddd). It’s simple, but still feels like it holds a little power. Perfect if you want to play with fantasy drawing ideas!

Okay, this one was just for fun. I love mixing unexpected things together, and the idea of a seahorse floating in front of the moon made me smile. It turned out way cuter than I planned lol. If you want a sea-themed moon doodle, this one’s for you!

I always imagine waves as soft, dancing lines. And with the moon rising behind, it felt like the perfect balance of calm and motion. This came from a Pinterest scroll session and turned into a very relaxing drawing. So easy, but so full of movement.

This one was inspired by those “galaxy in a jar” ideas you see online. I wanted to bottle up a dreamy little night scene with a moon, stars, and sea. You can totally customize what’s inside too! It’s a great way to experiment and still keep things beginner-friendly.

I pictured this as a secret portal to a cozy moon world. And I drew this while thinking about Suzume (even if I haven’t seen it yet, years after lol) Like… you’d open this tiny door and walk into a sky full of stars. Simple shapes, big imagination. It’s one of those drawing ideas that sparks stories in your head while you draw.

Sun Drawing Ideas

Let’s follow up by drawing the sun. The sun is a star, and an impressive one. It’s probably the one we can see the best. It’s a gigantic star with a radius of about 435,000 miles (700,000 kilometers)! It’s so fascinating to think about, and it makes me reflect on how small we are. But anyway, today, let’s draw this special star ♥

I wanted this sunrise to feel like a little celebration. Maybe the first sunrise of the year? The sparkles bursting around the sun give it that feeling of something new and bright starting. I designed it to be super beginner-friendly, just a few lines and dots, but full of energy.

This one is the same as the one we’ve seen previously with the Moon & Wave Drawing Idea, but we draw a sun instead of the moon! I think sun & moon look especially beautiful when paired with water. So I couldn’t resist!

Okay this sun-shaped wand with a big ribbon? Total magical girl energy, once again. Can you tell I love magical girls? lol If you’re into dreamy drawing inspiration with a sprinkle of whimsy, this one’s perfect. Also… sparkles again! I tried to show that the wand is active, maybe glowing? If you color it, I’m sure you can make it super glowy!

I was thinking about cool scenes you can see when you look at the sun setting. What about this scene? That’s probably one of the coolest scene you can see. This doodle is so easy and fun to draw, especially if you love ocean vibes.

This one’s like a dreamy weather forecast, but make it cute. The sun peeks out behind a fluffy cloud that’s literally raining sparkles. It’s simple and sweet. And perfect if you’re into aesthetic drawing ideas with a little magic.

I was sketching in the morning and saw the sky looking all soft and glowy, and just had to draw it. It’s actually a super easy sun drawing idea that people overlook. It literally takes a few seconds, and is still cute.

Sun & Moon Drawing Ideas

Lastly for this collection, let’s couple moon & star together with some extra drawing ideas mixing up both of them!

A whole little universe inside a heart? Love that. The moon, the sun, the sparkles – it’s giving cosmic love story energy. And as you can tell by now, I love this kind of energy. One of those super cute and easy ideas that’ll look adorable in your sketchbook or planner.

This one is so clean and satisfying to look at. A moon overlapping the sun with sparkles floating around. It has that balanced and calming vibe. Great for beginners and perfect for celestial-themed doodling. You can’t really make easier than this one I think!

How adorable is this? A little whimsical, too. The sun is peacefully sleeping while the moon is wraping around it. But the moon’s silly face makes it quite funny in my opinion. A mix of aesthetic & cute! Total favorite for journaling pages.

Sun up, moon down, and a little wave in between – this one feels like a whole story in a tiny drawing. I love how the linework flows so softly. If you want an aesthetic drawing idea with a mix of nature, sky, and sea, this is it. This is my favorite drawing idea of this list I think. It mixes everything I like together. I actually took quite a long time to make it look right, lol.

Wrap Up

Drawing the sun and moon always brings me a little calm and happiness, and I hope these ideas do the same for you. I tried to make every design as beginner-friendly as possible, because I really believe that anyone can draw. You don’t need to be “good” to enjoy creating cute things.
So grab a pen, open your sketchbook, and just start doodling. Whether you’re drawing just for fun or looking for a bit of aesthetic inspiration, I hope this little collection gives you ideas to play with.

Let me know which one you try first! 💛
