Hello there ♥
I’ve received a lot of requests recently and some of them were asking me to tackle “dark drawing ideas”, or dark themed drawing ideas. So today, I decided to tackle the topic.
But before we get into it as always, I want to note that I won’t be going into really dark themed and will stay soft and cute, which is the point of my website and my whole mood in general. If you want more gore/scary themed drawings, I’m not sure this is the right page for you!
In this collection, we’ll tackle themes like: goth, tribal, witches, sadness & loneliness, with hints of mystical vibes. Everything will remain soft while having a dark aesthetic.

Sooo if you’re ready, let’s dive into it ♥
Materials
- Use a pencil and an eraser to sketch your doodle first
- Then go over your initial sketch with an ink pen of your choice
- When the ink has dried out, erase the sketch under it
- Done!
Ready ? Let’s go! 🙂
Deadly Potion Drawing Idea
Let’s start with some magic! If you’re a regular visitor of my blog, you know I like drawing magic, witches, potions and more. You probably already saw it in my Halloween collection~

If you’re feeling creative, this is an aesthetic way to draw a fox. I love drawing foxes like this, beause it’s easy and has such a nice vibe to it. It’s very geometric and barely uses any curves. To make this, try to stick to straight lines as much as possible.
Loneliness Drawing Ideas
Being lonely is hard – and I think we’ve all been there. I know it’s not an easy feeling to deal with, and I wanted to attach a couple of loneliness drawing ideas.

While not illustrating textually the idea of “loneliness”, I think the idea of a flower fading away represents it well. It has this image that when you don’t care for it, it dies away. I think it’s a poetic way to draw that feeling.

Similarly, this voodoo doll doesn’t scream loneliness, but when you think about the story behind, it does.

And here is another one – that you could also see at the beginning of the article in the introduction. This one is literally perfect to represent loneliness in my opinion, because loneliness comes with all these layers. Feeling left alone, drowning, etc.
By the way, before I jump to the next section, I want to tell all the people who feel lonely that they’re not alone. This is such a cliché sentence, but it’s true – you matter. And if you need someone to talk to and you feel like you have nobody, feel free to message me! ♥
Witchy Cat

Here’s a witchy cat for cats lovers. Coupled with a skull, it immediately has a dark tint to it, doesn’t it? If you want more cute cats, I have a couple of additional cats for this dark themed collection just below.
Dark Cats
I have a whole collection featuring cute cats, but here, we’re limiting ourselves to dark themed cats and whatever that would mean lol.

Okay okay – hear me out. I know this cat looks cute, but hey; when you add the skull and the angry look, it’s kinda dark, right? no? ok. ;;;

This one definitely has a darker tone to it, doesn’t it? It comes from my cat collection – maybe it should just stay in this one instead. I really like the vibe of it and playing around with negative space. This cat looks properly mean.

Sorry I’m coming back with this cute angry dark cat because why not – and the skull is still there!

This one has much more of a witchy vibe to it, with the moon and stars / crystal beneath it.

And last one for the dark themed cats – a cat and a skull (skulls make any drawing instantly a little more dark, doesn’t it?)
Sadness Drawing Ideas
Okay we’re jumping back into a bit more of a serious topic – sadness. That’s another complex feeling to deal with, and here are some ideas to represent it.

Representing tears with liquid pouring from a little mug. and the mug is sad, obviously.

This one is an easy one. just representing sadness, anxiety, annoyance with a bunch of scratches and circles. Actually, drawing nonsense helps when you’re feeling blue. Maybe you can try!

And this one is a little no face guy with a broken hearted balloon. But always remember that broken heart don’t last forever. You’ll get back from it stronger. ♥
Broken Hearts
Speaking of broken hearts, let’s explore a couple more ideas on the topic.

Probably the easiest way to represent a broken heart is to draw a heart and a crack inside of it. To take it a notch further, this doodle is a nice idea to explore!

This one is a more complex one, with many bandages, and many cracks.

A broken heart is one of the worst feelings in the world. It might happen when a friendship ends, when someone you care about moves away, when parents split up, when someone rejects you, when a pet dies, or when someone you loved stops being in your life. The pain feels so real it can actually hurt in your chest.
Barbed Wires

And when your heart has been broken, you might feel like you want to protect yourself. Representing this idea with barbed wires is perfect in my opinion ♥
Drowning

When you feel overwhelmed and overly stressed, this is an easy way to represent it.
First, if you’re feeling like this, I want you to know that what you’re feeling is real and makes sense. Sometimes life is hard, and sometimes people around us make things harder than they should be. That’s not your fault. You deserve to be safe and cared for.
Stairs to Nowhere

Maybe not everybody will agree with me, but depending on how you see this drawing, it has a gloomy and dark tone to it. Nonetheless, I really like it and it’s easy to draw ♥
Demon Girl Drawing Idea
Now let’s discover a couple of “demon girls”. I know a lot of you guys are checking my chibi girls and anime girls and like to draw people as well, so I added a couple here.

The first one has her head titled up with a very short bob hair style. She has (and all of them as well) black tears (or you can take it as a tattoo as well) streaming down her cheeks.

This one has longer hair and a pony. I believe this one is easier to draw thanks to the angle of the face. As the previous one, the tears and the horns are still present on her face.

And this last one is a profile view – for those who prefer drawing only one eye, for example. (lol i’m guilty) In my opinion, it’s probably the easiest of these three to draw.
Abstract Dark
Okay I did not know how to name this section, but for me it has some abstract vibe to it – while still representing something.

This one represents the moon and stars while staying abstract and having a mystical vibe to it. I really like it and would probably see it as a nice tattoo, tbh.

An eye – or is it just nonsense that ended up looking like the drawing of an eye? We’ll never know, hey. But yeah, drawing scratches like this helps with dark feelings, honestly. And sometimes, you might end up with a really cool drawing.
Monster Drawing Idea
Monsters are all around – and when we’re young, they have very specific forms! I don’t want to add anything scary to this collection, so I’ll just keep it okay!

This is a mix between a monster and some sort of tribal drawing idea. I think it represents an enough scary monster without being overly dramatic or graphic, so I like it personally. It can also represent your fears, or your feelings.
Dark Potions
Okay let’s tone it down a little bit for the end of the collection! First, dark potions.

This one looks like a deadly love potion, doesn’t it? I wouldn’t put too much trust in it if I were you.

Mixing butterfly and potion makes it a little eerie and mystical in my opinion, so I wanted to try it out. It turns out nice in my opinion if you like witchy vibes!

And the last potion for today, a moon potion! When I think about potions, it makes me imagine tons of stories that I make up in my head and helps me escape.
Skull Cherries

Skulls, cherries, dripping liquid… all together to make a dark cherries drawing idea, hehe.
Dark Heart
We’ve talked about broken hearts, now let’s talk about dark ones!

I like to imagine dark hearts being hearts healing after a rough broken heart moment – they’re not bad by any means, just wounded, still hurting and with lots of protection around them, like this one up here.

This one is still bleeding, but at least, it’s whole.
Aesthetic Butterfly

I’ve drawn A LOT of butterflies accross time and I even have two different articles for it (that I should merge into one now that I think of it). Here is one butterfly drawing idea with a dark tone to it.
Dark Roses

Dark roses forming a heart with their stems, super poetic while remaining dark~
Dark Arts
And last section for this collection of dark themed drawing ideas, let’s tackle some dark arts! (I did not know how to call this section, yes yes). I showed a couple of potions and witchy stuff, and here are more:

These hands are obviously up to no good? Or well, maybe they are doing good but since we are in the dark themed collection, let’s say they’re up to no good okay—

And last drawing for today, some sort of deadly crystal ball with black smoke around it. Cute and eerie at the same time ♥
Wrap Up
And that’s it for today! I hope you liked some of these dark themed / eerie drawing ideas. Darkness doesn’t have to be creepy. Sketching a lonely moon, a gentle witch, or expressing those big feelings through art. it’s all a beautiful way to explore the different sides of yourself.
Dark aesthetics can be soft, thoughtful, and even comforting. They let us express the quieter, more mysterious parts of life while keeping things gentle and creative. Maybe you’re drawn to goth fashion, mystical symbols, or you simply love the contrast of shadows and light. Whatever calls to you is perfect.
Keep experimenting with these themes and mix them with your own style! Art is your safe space to explore any mood, feeling, or aesthetic that speaks to you. There’s no right or wrong way to create, and that’s the magic of it. I’d absolutely love to see your dark-themed creations if you want to share them with me! And if you have more drawing theme requests, my inbox is always open.
Until the next ones, here are my recommended reads if you liked this one!
