I’ve received many requests over the last months for x or z drawing article, and I’m trying to keep up with them. I’ve been requested to draw horses many, many times and today, I decided to finally tackle it!
Horses are really not an easy animal to draw in my opinion, but once you simplify them; it gets easier! (just like all the animal drawing ideas in my articles are – chibified or simplified to make it easy for you guys to doodle on your pages :))

In this collection, we’ll draw horses, but not only! As you might know, there are a few animals that look super similar to horses and that you can draw in the same way: zebras, donkeys, unicorns, and probably more I’m not thinking of right now. They all belong to the equine specie. So if you’re looking for zebra drawing ideas, you can also check this article!

I’ll join a couple of zebras, donkeys, unicorns (etc) but also explain how to transform your horse in any of these animals ♥ In due time, all of them will have their own dedicated article though~
Soo if you’re ready, let’s dive into it ♥
Materials
- Use a pencil and an eraser to sketch your doodle first
- Then go over your initial sketch with an ink pen of your choice
- When the ink has dried out, erase the sketch under it
- Done!
Ready ? Let’s go! 🙂
Cute Horse Tutorial
Let’s first learn some things about horses and how to draw them.

Step 1: to draw a horse, we start with circles. Draw three circles: two of similar sizes next to each other, and a smaller one on top, on the left side. We also add the rough shape of the nose, as well as strokes for the neck & tail.
Step 2: Now, let’s focus on the legs. We’ll detail the legs that we see directly first.

To understand legs, we can look at this schematic. It comes from Wikipedia, and I’ve highlighted the leg parts in pink. We need to vaguely understand how it works to draw them correctly – but don’t worry, you won’t need to know the whole horse’s anatomy to have fun drawing cute horses.

Step 3: We also have to draw the legs that appear at the back. They’re a bit hidden by the other two, but still important to draw! And now, our skeleton is done! We just need to link everything together to make it look like a proper horse. 🙂
Step 4: and that’s what we do at step 4. I like drawing the legs of the horses in “pony” style, so i make them thicker than you would usually see on a standard horse.

And voilà: a cute horse drawn in a few minutes! 🙂 It’s super easy when you understand the steps to go through to get to this result. ♥ And you can adapt to any pose! If you’re having difficulties, you can take a picture of a horse in the pose you want to try, and draw the skeleton method from there. ♥
Simple Horse

Here’s a cheerful little horse mid-gallop! It captures that energetic, happy feeling. The stars around it add to that magical vibe that I love and want to add to each drawing, lol. Perfect if you want to practice drawing movement without getting too caught up in details!
Drawing a Zebra

And here’s how you transform a horse into a zebra! Just add those signature stripes and maybe a darker nose, and you’ve got yourself a whole new animal. I think zebras are so fun to draw because those patterns are so iconic. Plus, it’s a great way to practice drawing stripes and patterns in general!
Drawing an Unicorn

Here’s your quick guide to turning any horse into a unicorn! Literally just add a horn and some sparkles, and boom – instant magic! I love showing these transformations because it really shows how simple it is to take one drawing and create variations. The red arrow shows exactly where to add that unicorn horn ♥
Cute MLP Drawing Idea

Who doesn’t know MLP? If you love horses, you probably know it. I’ve known My Little Pony since I was a child, but back then, they looked very different. With time, they became so much more cute and chibified, it’s so cool to see.
Horses are not super easy to draw, but MLPs are much more forgiving, just like any chibified animal/thing ever. So if you want to draw horses but aren’t sure about it, you can start with My Little Ponies! ♥
Cute Laying Horse Step by Step

This time, we will draw a horse laying and detail the steps to go from there.
Step 1: Just like for the first tutorial, draw three circles to start with.
Step 2: Then, we detail the skeleton of the legs, the neck, the ears, and the nose of our horse.
Since the legs are bent, I only drew a couple joints to avoid over complicating it. It’s not anatomically super accurate, but it’s good enough for a simple drawing. 🙂

Step 3: Then of course, we add some substance to our drawing by linking everything together! Ad that step, we can also add the extra details such as the eye and hair.
Step 4: And we’re done with this one! Of course as always I added some sparkles and stars because I like it better this way. 🙂
Chibi Horse Jumping

This energetic little horse is galloping away! As always, adding little doodles around your drawing makes it look more whimsical and fun in my opinion. It’s great practice for drawing action poses, and it’s still simple enough that you won’t get frustrated!
Easy Horse Jumping

And another jumping baby~ Horses love to run and jump around, but did you know they can hurt themselves easily? Also – if the fall is too dramatic, it’s usually a very bad news for horses. I did not know that before, and it really impacted me to think about!
Easy Chibi Horse

Here is another cute drawing idea. A My Little Pony ♥ This is probably one of my favorite ways to draw a horse (or should I say a pony?) They’re just so cute and fit my vibe perfectly.
If you want to learn how to draw them step by step, it’s here ♥
Cute Pegasus

A pegasus! Because why stop at unicorns when you can have wings too? This one has such a gentle, loving vibe with the hearts floating around it, it looks super whimsical. Pegasus drawings are perfect when you want to add a bit more fantasy magic to your pages.
Cute Unicorn Drawing

Can we talk about how adorable this tiny unicorn is?! It’s so minimalist and sweet with just a simple heart beside it. This is the kind of doodle I’d scatter throughout my notes or use as little decorative elements.
It makes me think of My Little Pony♥
Chibi Horse

This one is a super beginner friendly horse drawing idea! Basic shapes, only one eye to draw, what more can you ask for? haha. The little stars around it add charm without complicating things. I love using this style when I just want to quickly doodle something cute without thinking too hard about proportions or anatomy~
Rocking Horse Drawing Idea

This rocking horse brings back so much childhood nostalgia! I added a rainbow arc above it with stars to really emphasize that innocent, playful feeling. Rocking horses are iconic childhood toys, and they’re surprisingly easy to draw since they’re more simplified than regular horses. ♥
Easy Horse Drawing

Okay, so this one’s a bit different – it’s a chess knight (which is a horse!) combined with stars. This is perfect if you’re looking for something unique or if you want to combine your love of chess with cute doodles.
Personally, I can’t play chess, but I still love this little horse doodle idea! It’s easier than drawing a full body horse, lol.
Aesthetic Horse Drawing

This is probably the most artistic take on a horse in this collection. It’s more abstract and sketch-like, which I think gives it a really elegant vibe. The stars scattered around add that dreamy touch. Great if you want something a bit more sophisticated for your art~
Easy Horse Unicorn Drawing

This dreamy unicorn is one of my favorites, because it’s super easy while remaining super cute! It has this sleepy, peaceful vibe with its closed eyes, surrounded by stars. If you want to draw something that feels whimsical and relaxing, this is perfect for your journal spreads or doodle pages.
Wrap Up
And that’s it for now ♥ Learning how to draw horses is actually quite hard, but when you chibify them, the legs can just become little sausages that you can bend around and draw way more easily – so I guess it’s okay? lol
Anyway, I’ve had a lot of fun learning about horse’s anatomy to draw the tutorials and step by steps for these horse drawings, and I hope you liked them. 🙂 I will add more with time whenever I draw some new ones! ♥
Thank you for reading me 🙂
